Mobile Banking Widely Adopted in India, Ghana and Nigeria On Device Research recently released a report looking at the mobile finance activities of mobile Internet users in emerging markets, and found that 53 percent of mobile Internet users in India, Kenya, Indonesia, Ghana and Nigeria have engaged in mobile banking and payment activities.
However, according to DNA, less than one percent of mobile phone users in India actually use their mobile devices for conducting banking transactions despite the technology being widely available.

Is Mobile Banking a Convenience that You Can Afford? Computer security company Symantec decided to find out what happened when so-called good Samaritans found smartphones that the owners had lost. So they intentionally lost 50 phones in four different cities.
The good news was that many finders did try to return the phones. The bad news? About half of them snooped through the phone's contents. According to Kevin Haley of Symantec, finders went through pictures and into saved password files. Forty-three percent of finders actually tried to access banking apps.

Tyfone's Mobile Banking iCashe Mobile Wallet Tapped by OnPoint Community The Credit Union Times blog by Robert McGarvey does a fine job hitting the highlights in its space, and recently McGarvey looked at Portland, Ore.-based OnPoint, which announced it has become the first credit union to offer iCashe Mobile Wallet, a mobile banking service from Portland's tech developer Tyfone.
OnPoint, the largest credit union in Oregon, currently has more than 226,000 members and assets of $2.9 billion. With Tyfone's product, OnPoint mobile banking users can purchase gift cards on their smartphones. A good time of year to roll it out, we'd say. The program includes such national retailers as Barnes & Noble, Fandango and Zappos.com.
